JUNE TO-DO LIST
Posted by Catherine Ray on
I haven’t done this in SO LONG! But those who know me know that I am obsessed with Making lists! I will make a grocery list, to-do list, to-do list for after the first to-do list etc. I think its an ADHD thing or something. And yes I know we’re in the middle of June buuut it’s never to late to make a Monthly To-Do. So here’s what I’ve got planned for the month, let me start first with saying that If I do not complete everything I’ve listed it is NOT the end of the world, I will just add it to the next months list. Marking things off the list is more of a serotonin boost than a way to stay organized for me, I am purely motivated by just being able to check things off my list..
Getting to the point, Nothing on this list is in a particular order or urgency (sometimes they are, depending how detailed I felt like being) so I’ll just be picking random ones as I go. Now here is some back ground on the this list.

- Clean up the Garden- Not gunna lie, my garden is looking roughhh. The grass has almost completely taken over one of my raised beds and last night Ryan mowed the front yard and ran over my corn that I had started a few weeks ago. But on a positive note, my zucchini plants are looking great! My main focus will be removing the grass from the raised beds and weed eating the borders of the beds. And I should probably pick up the fifty tools I’ve left there while I’m at it.
- Buy chicken feed- Self explanatory, I might buy them some snacks too.
3. Disinfect Feeders & Waterers- I like to do this every couple months when I clean the coop, I also gotta clean some to add to the mini coop.
4. Get the Mini coop ready- We bought a small coop a few years ago because it was on sale at Tractor supply. I put it in the big run at first but we never used it, the other day I ended up taking it out of the big run and set it by our shed, I’m working on setting it up but I haven’t decided what to do with it yet.
5. Sell Rooster (Maybe)- Our Rooster is a mean SOB, I know he’s just doing his job by trying to protect our hens but he comes at me for what feels like no reason! And frankly I’m tired of watching over my shoulder every time I have to do chicken chores. My husband wants to cull him but we haven’t done that before and while it would be nice to learn I feel guilty, we’ve had this particular Roo for almost 5 years. If I sell him I can at least pretend he’s living the good life with some hens in a new home even if chances are whoever bought him, bought him to eat him.
6.Plan & Prep to add Run Roof- Right now we’ve had bird netting as the roof of our main coop but it doesn’t last well in the wind and it gets so hot during summer the chickens really could use some shade. The plan is to get tin sheets from our local higginbotham so I need to do some measurements and plan out the details.
7. Order chicks- I’ve been wanting to add colorful egg layers, I currently only have brown and white layers. Chick days was happening the past couple months but because we had a week long trip to Oklahoma In late April I didn’t want to buy chicks right before we leave and have my friend who watches our house for us have to come deal with them. Now would be a good time for us to get some unless we want to wait until next spring.
8. Clean out duck pen- We use to have ducks but we haven’t for a couple years now. The Duck pen has been fully taken over by weeds so I need to clean it out and prepare it for *maybe* getting some new ducks again.
9. Duck Pond Drainage Plans- This is a branch off of #8, IF we decide to get ducks again I would like to extend their pond and make it more practical. We don’t have a lot of room to work with and if you’ve owned ducks before then you know how dirty they can make a body of water in such a short amount of time.
10. Level the Chicken run & Lay down pine pellets- This one does really depend on if we get the run roof done or not, there’s no real point in putting bedding in their run to keep it dry when there is nothing to block out the rain in the first place. The coop itself is okay and not apart of this project. This project is specifically for the run that is attached to the coop.
After looking at this page in all its entirety I’m feeling like I may have been a little overconfident in my ability and time, I like to forget that I’m also a stay at home mom who has my 6 and 1 year old on me 98% of the time so I gotta plan and prep for big projects when my little one is down for a nap. But hey if I knock out only half of these that is still better than nothing right?! Goodluck to everyone on all their planned projects and To-do lists! I love see what other people accomplish, it motivates me to get my sh*t together! Let me know your plans, to-do lists etc. See Ya!
